It’s December 2024 and I’m running late to work at a client’s office. We’ve worked together for years, and it wasn’t a scheduled meeting or anything. It’s confidential, so I can’t tell you what I was going there to do. After getting settled, I head to the CEO’s office – yup, that’s how I roll – hanging with the C-level. 🤓
No sooner than I walked into his office, in my already frazzled state, but the CEO handed me a gift bag. Now I’m embarrassed because I didn’t plan well enough and left his gift back in my home office, along with the gift for the CFO – hey, gotta cover the bases where the money comes from. Just kidding, gifts aren’t bribes 😉 we’ve all been friends for years. That’s kind of what happens when you work with people for a long time. You either love them of hate them – right?
We’ve talked about bourbon from time to time and shared what we were drinking and enjoying. See, always have confidence I will get to the point of eventually – and it will be a nice ride to get there. Kind of like watching that caramel goodness pour from the bottle, splash over the crystal clear ice cube you agonized over making, and then letting that liquid gold settle and merge with the melting H2O to produce a flavor that sets you taste buds singing and mind reeling that you haven’t tasted something so good in…in…since the last good bottle you opened.
It’s true, there are great whiskeys, good whiskeys, and let’s just say not so good whiskeys at every price level. But, it’s your palette that makes or breaks a whiskey. Some people love that crazy burn running down their gullet that makes their stomach sit up and quote Deadpool (“What the sh…). Ok, ew, but I’m not erasing it, it’s true. Just because I like or don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s going to be the same for you. I’m only here to entertain you and inform you of my opinion. Maybe we’ll match, maybe you’ll disagree. Cool, let’s chat about it. I always learn something from different opinions.
That said, Traveller Whiskey, if you don’t know – I didn’t, is crafted by the Buffalo Trace Distillery (BTD) in collaboration with Chris Stapleton (the Country Music star). Honestly, that doesn’t mean much to me. I like Country music, I’m just not a big celeb follower.
What I do like, are the touches artisans put on their products – like the map on the inside of the back label, and the way something tastes and makes me feel when I drink it.
On the BTD website, they claim it is easy to drink – I totally agree. It is as smooth as 90-proof alcohol should be. The sweet and spice flavors balance nicely, and that adds to the smoothness. I gotta say, my palette isn’t as refined as some. I have a hard, if not impossible, time picking out flavors. The strong ones I can do, but the more subtle ones are usually lost on me. But that’s ok. I’m not sure what oak tastes like, nor do I think I want to. Charred is different than oak – that I can taste. In the end, I just need to know I like something.
And I like Traveller Whiskey. It will take a few more glasses to know if I love it, but I certainly would bring it out for others to try while I still have some. If I don’t like something, I will rarely share it; more than likely, I will give it away.
At this point, I put Traveller Whiskey in the Everyday category. It’s a comfortable drink that doesn’t just get the job done, but elevates it a bit. It’s enjoyable after a long day or to bring out and sip with friends on the porch. You thought I was going to say deck or patio, didn’t ya…
If you regularly drink whiskeys and bourbons, this won’t knock your socks off, but I bet you’ll enjoy it. Unless you’re one of those that like their tonsils to be exfoliated with every sip. More power to you, but it’s like eating ghost peppers. What’s the point if you can’t taste anything – and don’t get me started on the aftermath.
On that note. I think my doorbell rang. Maybe they want to sit a spell and help me empty this bottle.

wow whiskeeeeeeeeee
